Description:
A deciduous evergreen with a soft, ferny appearance, growing into a very tall, pyramidal habit of growth. The shaggy, reddish bark creates great Winter interest. The needles turn a beautiful apricot brown Fall colour before dropping. This is the hardiest of the redwood/sequoia family.
Redwoods require consistent moisture and cannot tolerate a hot or dry site. While metasequoia have the appearance of an evergreen, they shed their needles every Fall. Typically branched to the ground, they can be pruned up to expose the trunk, and are deer resistant.
