Description:
A hybrid dogwood which is the result of crossing Cornus kousa with the Pacific dogwood, Cornus nuttallii, making it one of the best for winter hardiness for a hybrid. Absolutely huge white flower bracts smother the tree in Spring. Fantastic Fall colours of purple red leaves colour your landscape as well. Magnificent red berries late in the season will attract birds to the landscape. Best planted in a sheltered location to protect from heavy winds. Excellent tolerance to drought and disease.
Choose a site for your dogwoods that is well-drained but does not get extremely dry. Soil high in organic matter is best. Dogwoods can be planted in full sun or partial shade, though partial shade is best (morning sun in particular). Dogwoods are typically an understory tree in its native habitat. Dogwoods are easy care trees that will likely bloom by their second year, but sometimes will bloom in their first year. Avoid areas with standing water. Snipping off old buds on the dogwood tree to promote new growth and flowering can take place during the summer, preferably in June after flowering, although fewer berries will form. Extensive pruning, if needed, is best done when the tree is dormant.
