This tightly columnar tree is so beautiful with its maroon-red fall colour. Plant in groups as a formal screen or as a single specimen to add a vertical element to your landscape. It has low branching usually at 3 feet from the ground. It is also noted for its mildew resistance. Green Pillars are fantastic for winter leaf retention and make them a choice deciduous tree for hiding unwanted views.
It is more tolerant of wet soils, but not standing water, and prefers acidic soil. Pruning of dead wood, or the odd crossing branch for structure is done midWinter to March. All oaks are Black Walnut tolerant.
