Purple blooms begin mid-Summer and last for many weeks attracting hummingbirds and pollinators. Best planted into rich, well-draining, slightly acidic soil in full sun, but can tolerate some shade, and in a location protected from strong winter winds. They cannot tolerate wet sites. Flowers grow on the current year’s growth; early pruning before leaves develop is recommended to maintain size and shape. The leaves emerge very late in the spring. Rose of Sharon is deer resistant. Rose of Sharon is warrantied until October lst.
