Description:
This native shade tree forms an upright form with arching branches and a rounded, spreading crown. Greenish flowers produce round fleshy berry-like, deep purple drupes, attracting a range of birds. The bark develops corky ridges, tan when young, and turning grey at maturity.
The simple ovate leaves, with serrated margins, are light green in the summer and turn a bright yellow in Autumn for an attractive Fall colour.
Hackberry can tolerate wind, pollution, and a wide range of soil conditions, including wet, dry and poor soils.
