The flowers are excellent for cutting and drying. Prune branches back by half to two thirds in early Spring before leaves open. The most important rule of all hydrangeas is water, hence the name “hydra” meaning water; hydrangeas are very thirsty. They love the sun, but in a hot spot, adequate water is needed, or the blooms will brown up fast. Adequate water will keep your blooms beautiful right up to the lst hard frost. The dried blooms on the shrub or tree create beautiful winter interest in the garden. PeeGee Hydrangeas do best in slightly acidic soil, but it is not necessary to amend your soil. Leaves turn yellow adding to the Fall colour in the landscape along with the reddish pink blooms.
