Description:
A dark, slower-growing, evergreen that has many uses. The dark green foliage backs scarlet-colored berries, but they are poisonous to pets and children. The berries are fine for the birds. It tolerates shearing for a hedge. It branches close to the ground and has a naturally informal habit when untrained. Every landscape looks more attractive with some evergreens, and yews are one of the best, providing lush, dark green growth all season long. Their dark green foliage is a great contrast for flowering shrubs.
Pruning in late spring or summer is best. Yews are drought-tolerant once established and will not do well in wet areas. Water freely in the fall before the ground freezes.
